Six seasons, 42 races (with one more to come in Bahrain), 20 trips to the podium, 10 race wins, 13 pole positions, two historic front row lockouts, two Le Mans 24 Hour victories, the LMP2 championship title and the announcement of the McLaren United AS WEC Hypercar Team. It has been an epic run of success for United Autosports in the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) since debuting at Silverstone in 2019.

Now, following four seasons of LMP2 and two years contesting LMGT3 in papaya as official racing partner of McLaren Automotive, United Autosports will step back from the WEC for one season - with multi-championship winners Garage 59 joining the LMGT3 grid as official racing partner of McLaren Automotive from 2026 (subject to WEC Entry Committee approval).

The decisive move will allow United Autosports to focus crucial time and resources on its role with the new McLaren Racing LMDh entry from the 2027 season, which was announced at the 2025 Le Mans 24 Hours. McLaren Racing’s exciting entry to the FIA World Endurance Championship, which will mark the return of McLaren Racing to endurance racing, will begin with a robust testing programme throughout 2026.

United Autosports will continue to fight at the front of the grid in the 2025/26 Asian Le Mans Series (read more), 2026 European Le Mans Series and Le Mans 24 Hours LMP2 class (both subject to confirmation of entries by the ACO), and 2026 IMSA WeatherTech Sportscar Championship (read more).

“It is truly an honour to race in the WEC, so this is not a decision we have taken lightly,” says Richard Dean, United Autosports CEO. “But when you have the opportunity to race in Hypercar and form a team with McLaren Racing with the goal to compete for outright victory in the championship, including Le Mans … that is something we have worked for, fought for … dreamed of … for years, so we are doing everything in our power to make it a success. I would like to thank WEC for their support, and wish Garage 59 and McLaren Automotive the best of luck next season in LMGT3. We will be back on the grid in 2027 as part of the McLaren United AS WEC Hypercar Team and we can’t wait.”

The final round of the 2025 FIA World Endurance Championship is the Bapco Energies 8 Hours of Bahrain on Saturday 8th November, with United Autosports and McLaren Automotive going for LMGT3 victory once again. Follow all the action on social @unitedautosports.
