United Autosports Extends Michelin Ginetta Gt4 Supercup Series Lead

  • Breeze claims front row start, two wins and a second plus fastest laps
  • Davenport records best qualifying spot, a brace of fifths & fastest lap
  • UA to focus on qualifying pace in BTCC “summer break”

United Autosports has extended its points advantage in the Michelin Ginetta GT4 Supercup following the latest three races at Croft this weekend (28-29 June).

Carl Breeze won two races – started from the front row and recorded two fastest race laps – and posted a second place in the third, which moved him up one place from fifth to fourth in the standings while team-mate Luke Davenport remains sixth after netting two fifth placings – Luke setting race three’s fastest lap.

Breeze, who had started from the front row – his best qualifying position of the season – won by 1.103secs having led from start to finish while team-mate Davenport, who himself had achieved his best qualifying position with a third fastest time, came home fifth for the third consecutive race. Luke had run third until contact on the penultimate lap.

Breeze made a good start from pole in race two to lead but the Safety Car was deployed when Davenport was nudged from behind into a spin at the first chicane complex on the opening lap – resulting in Luke’s first non-finish of the season after 13 races.

From the re-start, Carl endured intense pressure by series leader Charlie Robertson for the duration of the race but did not prevent Breeze from chalking up his 31st career win by 0.898secs.

In the third and final race, Breeze and Davenport started fifth and 13th but were up to second and fifth respectively by mid-distance – Luke a mere 1.717secs adrift of the winner after 15-laps.

#2 Blue Chip – Ginetta G55

Carl Breeze (GB). Age: 34. Born & Lives: King’s Lynn, England.

“It has been a brilliant weekend for me and a great team effort from United Autosports. Qualifying on the front row in the opening race was very pleasing and I made a good start to edge in front of Robertson to take the lead. It was then just a case of maintaining the gap at the front and looking after the tyres for the other two races.

“I started from ‘pole’ for race two courtesy on my race one win and so was on the racing line for the first corner. I was under extreme pressure from Robertson for the first half of the race and then settled into a rhythm allowing me to look after my tyres which paid off in the closing stages.

“I had a lot of work to do in the third race from P5 on the grid but made another good start to gain two places, managed the tyres, got up to second and was catching the leader and could have possibly made an attempt for the lead but didn’t want to risk a non-finish.”

#23 Duo / Henderson Insurance Brokers – Ginetta G55

Luke Davenport (GB). Age: 21. Born: Cambridge, England. Lives: Little Gransden nr St. Neots & Oxford, England.

“Qualifying went to plan in terms of me sticking close to Robertson and Carl which was pleasing after missing out on much of testing the previous day after a gearbox issue. I took a kerb heavily at Turn One early on which then effected the car’s turn in before contacting another car late on which was a shame as P3 looked to be on.

“I was tagged into retirement in the second race at the first corners on the opening lap having snatched fourth place at the start. In race three I was able to move up through the field to fifth place. So long as I can continue qualifying near the front then the results will fall into place. The team did a great job this weekend.”

Richard Dean, Team Owner and Managing Director, United Autosports:

“There’s still a long way to go in the championship but our form is coming together for the second half of the season. Carl’s had a great weekend scoring two wins and a second – and could well have won the third race with another lap or two. Luke’s recorded another couple of fifths, was unlucky in the second race and he’s progressing well.”
