Last weekend at the Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion, United Autosports Chairman Zak Brown celebrated on the podium, taking third place in the 1989 IMSA GTP Jaguar XJR-10 in both Race 1 and Race 2 of the Hurley Haywood Trophy.
The weekend wasn't without drama, with a heart-stopping near miss – as seen on Zak’s Instagram – which almost brought the weekend to an early end for him and several others, after a major oil spill at the infamous Corkscrew caused a three-car spin (impressively dodged by all). Quick action from Zak, however, avoided on-track trouble, with the Jaguar going on to take P3.
The Reunion started well for the Porsche 935, with Brown taking pole position on Thursday morning and leading the grid off the line for the first of two races in the Peter Gregg Trophy class.
Brown finished P4 in Race 1, then the team had to change the engine … but the 935 successfully made it to the grid for Race 2 on Saturday. Sadly, the Porsche stopped on track on the final lap – bringing an exciting weekend to a premature end.
Finally, in the IROC Series, Brown raced the 1978 IROC Chevrolet Camaro - a car previously driven by nearly 30 world-renowned drivers – finishing third in class and wrapping up another year at the Monterey Motorsports Reunion.
“Mega weekend here at the Reunion - even better taking home two P3 podium positions in the Jaguar XJR-10!” says Brown. “Had an awesome time racing with the IROC boys, driving alongside some of the biggest legends in American Motorsport in some very cool cars – that was epic. A big thanks to the United Autosports crew for all their hard work this weekend. We went through two engine changes across the weekend, but the guys battled through to get us back out and finish on a high. Another successful event in the books!”
The next event on the historic racing calendar is the Navarra Historic in Northern Spain on the 10th - 12th October 2025. First, however, the LMP2 and LMGT3 crew are in Spa-Francorchamps for round four of the European Le Mans Series.
