This weekend, the United Autosports USA crew headed to the second IMSA LMP2 sprint race of the season - this time at Road America in Wisconsin.

On Sunday afternoon, the #2 ORECA 07 of Phil Fayer (read more) and Ben Hanley fought from P7 to P4 at the finish – their second top four finish together in as many races.

For the sister #22 ORECA 07, an incident on lap one sent the championship leader behind the wall for major repairs. Daniel Goldburg rejoined the race with 45 minutes on the clock and took the checkered flag in P14 – setting the fastest Bronze driver average lap time and securing crucial points to drop just one place in the championship to P2 and keep the battle going for the final two races of the season.

Now, the sprints are complete for the IMSA LMP2 crew – next, we’re back to endurance racing. The sixth round of the IMSA WeatherTech Championship is the Battle on the Bricks at Indianapolis Motor Speedway on Sunday, 21st September 2025. Stay up to date with the team on social @unitedautosports.

QUALI P7 | RACE P4 | CHAMP P8

Phil Fayer took the start from P7, managing mid-pack traffic and coming into the pits in P8, pitting for a full service and driver change to Ben Hanley under one of many yellow flags.

Later on, Hanley, when leaving the pits, was involved in a three-wide fight to pit exit, resulting in a couple of places lost to stay out of trouble. However, the Brit continued with his fuel saving strategy – a call that rewarded the #2 crew in the final stages, when competing LMP2s were forced into major fuel saving. This strategic advantage catapulted the #2 into the top four, with Fayer and Hanley securing back to back P4 results in this year’s IMSA sprint races.

After Road America, we wave goodbye to Phil Fayer - and welcome back Nick Boulle (read more) who will complete the Michelin Endurance Cup season with Ben Hanley and Juan Manuel Correa (read more).

Phil Fayer: “Road America is a real driver’s track - fast, flowing and full of character. The circuit rewards commitment, with big braking zones, high-speed corners, and elevation changes that keep you on your toes every lap. To be back behind the wheel with Ben [Hanley] and finish P4 again feels incredible. The #2 United Autosports car was a pleasure to drive all weekend. The team executed flawlessly on strategy, especially with so many cautions to manage. I’ve truly enjoyed these two races with United. I’m proud of how the team performed and already can’t wait for what next year holds.

Ben Hanley: “That was a hectic race. A lot of yellows and a lot of fuel saving for everyone. We didn’t have a great track position when I got in the car, we were quite near the back so it was difficult to manage the fuel saving and to move forward at the same time – but then by the end, we must have done a really great job as everyone started panicking, doing huge fuel saving – which meant we could push through everyone’s troubles and get up to P4. A really good result, considering where we were mid-race!”

QUALI P3 | RACE P14 | CHAMP P2

Daniel Goldburg continued his strong Qualifying form, securing his fourth top three result out of five races so far this season. However, race day took a disastrous turn for the championship-leading #22 as an incident on the first lap sent the car behind the wall for the majority of the race. Intensive repairs by the team - which included a gear box change, new rear left suspension and front suspension repairs, tail, nose and engine cover changes, and almost complete bodywork changes down the left side – incredibly saw the ORECA 07 rejoin the sprint for the final 45 minutes and valiantly take the checkered flag in P14.

Thanks to the crew’s fast work, the #22 retains a strong standing in the LMP2 championship, heading into the final two rounds with the title very much in sight. In addition, Goldburg is second place in the fight for the Jim Trueman award which will honour the most successful LMP2 Bronze driver at the end of the season with an automatic invitation to the 2026 24 Hours of Le Mans.

Daniel Goldburg: “It's a crushing day. With this result it's hard not to second guess myself. But, replaying it over, I gave enough racing room, and I was nearly past him. Given the same circumstances ... I could have had a better launch, or even a better qualifying, but where I was in T1 under these circumstances, I don't think I'd do it differently. But damn, it hurts. To lose our lead, and drop way back in the Trueman award ... it hurts bad. There are some bright points, the crew did a truly amazing job to get the car back together so we could try to maximize points. I watched the whole time, and it was impressive. And the car was like new when I went back out. I ended up with the fastest bronze average lap time. I'd say what the crew did was unbelievable, but I saw them do it. Without this incident, I'm confident we had all the pieces to have a great finish today, just a really unfortunate incident with big affects. I'll pick myself up, give me a couple days maybe. But I'll come back strong, and I know the team will, and Paul and Rasmus ... they are all ready to fight hard in the last two races to see what we can achieve.”

Paul Di Resta: “A difficult weekend for our car. The incident at the start essentially ruined our race. The team did an amazing job getting the car back out there – we made the call to put Daniel in for the rest of the race to fight for points for the Trueman award – so in the end, I wasn’t in the car. Hopefully we’ll have more luck in Indy.”

MANAGEMENT

Richard Dean, United Autosports CEO: “This was not our weekend. Daniel definitely got turned around at the first corner – which ultimately finished his weekend and was no fault of his own. What an effort from the team to get a gearbox changed, significant damage repaired and back out so quickly. Daniel finished the race and proved to be ultra-competitive. By no means is the fight for the championship over. We have two more races to go and we’ll be fighting to the end. An exciting race for the #2 car, coming from the back of the grid, to fighting for a top three position. Phil came to this weekend backed by P4 in his first LMP2 race in Canada and with Ben Hanley’s knowledge of the track the duo fought hard to take P4 again at the checkered flag.”
