United Autosports Win At Silverstone

  • United Autosports win two sprint races in fifth GT Cup event
  • Jim scores fastest lap in McLaren MP4-12C GT3
  • Third-place finish in pit-stop race for team

United Autosports won the two 25-minute sprint races at Silverstone yesterday in the fifth round of the GT Cup championship.

Jim Geddie brought the McLaren MP4-12C GT3 home in first place after stunning battles with Shaun Balfe and Richard Chamberlain.

The team also scored another podium with a third-place finish in the first race of the weekend on Saturday, which included the mandatory pit stop, where Jim finished 22 seconds behind first despite having to serve a 45-second success penalty due to previous results – a penalty his rivals ahead didn’t have to serve.

In the second race, Jim started from pole and had a great battle with Chamberlain, exchanging places throughout the race, but eventually taking the win.

In race three, Jim fought a tough battle with Chamberlain and Balfe, all three drivers switching places throughout the 25-minute race. A lengthy safety car period at the start of the race resulted in a four-lap sprint to the finish where Jim emerged as victor and also scored the fastest lap of the race, extending his lead in the championship.

The next race is at Donington Park, Leicestershire on 20-21 September.

Jim Geddie, Driver, United Autosports:

“I’m so thrilled with how the weekend ended. I had some great battles with Shaun [Balfe] and Richard [Chamberlain] which was really fun. The pit stop penalty in the first race damaged our chances of challenging for the win. I’m now really looking forward to Donington, hopefully we can get some more wins there.

Richard Dean, Team Owner and Managing Director, United Autosports:

“I’m really pleased for Jim and the whole team with how the weekend has gone. It’s great that Jim had some good racing to get stuck into and even better that he came out on top. This weekend has set us up nicely for the rest of the championship, so hopefully a few more wins at the final two rounds will top it off nicely.”
