Racing career

Motorsport was a big passion for James from an early age, growing up near Watkins Glen International in the USA.

In 2016, McGuire raced with United Autosports for the first time, celebrating on the podium at the Gulf 12 Hours with a team of three drivers including Stefan Johansson, former F1 driver and Le Mans 24 Hours champion.

Over the next four years, he contested the Michelin Le Mans Cup, the Asian Le Mans Series and – in 2019 – returned to the Gulf 12 Hours to take another podium at the event, coming home in second.

In 2020, James joined forces with Duncan Tappy and Andrew Bentley in pursuit of the European Le Mans Series LMP3 championship – and the trio reunited the following year for the 2021 season.

Alongside European racing, McGuire and United Autosports entered the 2020 Asian Le Mans Series, celebrating on the podium with co-drivers Bentley and Duncan Tappy at three out of the four races, ultimately clinching second place in the overall championship.

The following year, in 2021, he made his IMSA debut at the 12 Hours of Sebring - going on to secure a podium in the LMP2 class at round five in Watkins Glen, the track near his hometown where his passion for racing was born.

In 2022, McGuire contested the European Le Mans Series LMP3 class with long-standing teammate Andrew Bentley and Kay Van Berlo. In, he stepped up to the LMP2 class, racing in the 2023 European series with former F1 driver Paul Di Resta and Le Mans champion Guy Smith - however, head-on impact with the barrier in Aragon meant that Jim had to withdraw from the rest of the season (read more).
